Valley of Fire, Nevada.

Bullhead city wasn't much. Again we found ourselves in nice park on the banks of the Colorado, but there weren't many people and we didn't feel embraced by the surroundings.  Still, we did have "a Sunset magazine" moment.

Mary whipped up this spectacular taco salad.

And we saw the first blooms of a prickly pear cactus.  Springtime in the dessert.  Lovely.

Based on several fellow traveler's recommendations, we then moved on to the "Valley of Fire" state park 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas and got one of the last available camp sites.  The name comes from red sandstone formations formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs 150 million years ago.

We would have loved to spend a few more days here but time is running short and we do want to spend a couple of days at Zion National Park, a favorite of Mary's brother Paul and his wife Val.
