After a wonderful evening with one of Mary's high school classmates, Pat Aaby and his wife Sue, it was time to leave Tucson. Plan "B" was to leave early and go southwest to "Organ Pipes Cactus National Monument" . But we got a late start and ended up going a grand total of 28 miles -- landing at "Gilbert Ray County Campgrounds" within Tucson Mountain Park. This park came up repeatedly in conversations with fellow campers and is walking distance (albeit a very LONG walk over hill and dale) to the Sonoran Desert Museum, one of the best museums of its kind. Here's a couple of shots from that walk.
An "old growth" forest of Saguaro cacti.
And here is Mary's "Tai Chi Saguaro" photo.
Double dare!
Since the weather up north has improved dramatically,
. . . we have now shelved plan "B" and today find ourselves at "Lake Pleasant" about 20 miles NW of Phoenix. Mary says the weather here is like Lake Chelan --read 80+. For you fisherman we understand that the lake has a robust population of bass, catfish, tilapia, and carp.
This is going to be a one day stop over. Tomorrow we will head to Bullhead City which is between Lake Havasu and Lake Mead. We have a tip that the campground at Lake Mohave is another gem -- time will tell.
